A FAMILY AFFAIR
TORY TRADES CARMICHAEL ENDORSEMENT FOR CARMICHAEL ENDORSEMENT IN WARD 16

Today, Mayoral candidate John Tory endorsed Ward 16 council candidate Jean-Pierre Boutros’ key opponent– Christin Carmichael Greb. Carmichael Greb is a Bombardier employee who has actively sought the support of her father, a federal Conservative MP, on the campaign trail.

Tory’s endorsement for Carmichael Greb comes just three days after Tory was formally endorsed by her father.

Despite claims that she is “invested in the ward,” Carmichael Greb has repeatedly made a point of having herself photographed canvassing in Ward 16 with Conservative MPs from outside Toronto, and even with an Ottawa-area conservative MPP. She has also been endorsed by several lobbyists, and has made it clear that she’ll be backing the introduction of jet service at Billy Bishop Island airport, regardless of the cost to taxpayers for preferential treatment of a single corporation.

“Tory’s announcement comes two weeks after Tory’s campaign team pledged to me that they had no intention of endorsing anyone in the Ward 16 race,” Boutros said.

“My neighbors now have a clear choice: Carmichael Greb, who’s the candidate backed by political outsiders with an agenda outside Ward 16, or they can rally behind me, the one local, independent and experienced candidate who can put our neighborhood’s interests first.”

Boutros is a successful sports promoter, a ward resident and parent, and a former policy advisor to Councillor Stintz. He has made a point in his literature that he has no partisan affiliation, sought no developer fundraising, and has no lobbyist endorsements. Boutros is opposed to both jets at the Island Airport and the Scarborough Subway extension – and its 1.6% city-wide property tax increase – on the grounds that both projects are a waste of precious tax dollars needed for better transit and infrastructure across Toronto and in Ward 16.
